Meet our Family
Peter and Annica Quakenbush
We are a West Michigan family run business.
Starting a natural burial forest is something Peter began envisioning in 2014. Not only is it a good way to preserve a forest, but it also provides a unique, thoughtful, and simple burial option consistent for those who are environmentally-minded. Read a personal story Peter wrote about natural burial here.
Peter is passionate about all-things plants, animals, conservation, and sustainability. His role at MI Burial is to manage the burial forest, maintain the property for conservation, and facilitate burials. He has a Masters in Botany, and is nearing the end of his PhD program in Biological Science with an emphasis in Plants.
Annica (Ah-nih-cuh) provides customer care for MI Burial’s clients along with website/graphic design, photography, and product creation. Annica also owns Sprout and Blossom Birth & Beyond, where she is a professional doula and birth photographer.
Peter and Annica live in Grand Rapids, MI with their children - Linden and Rubin. They love being together outside, piling on the couch for movie nights, and gathering around vibrant vegetarian food with friends and family. At home the Quakenbushes are surrounded by their non-human friends: Whompie and Elsa (cats), Buggser (bunny), Priscilla (a resident opossum), a pond full of native fish, and a yard full of native plants.
